Throughout his sportscasting seasons, Trent Ling could be heard throughout the day, every day, via his promotional radio spots that aired in between game broadcasts. From 1986, one such radio promo for KTAC-85 in Tacoma, Washington, has been linked below. Age 21 at the time, Trent found himself in the throes of yet another exciting year as the voice of national college football power (and his alma mater to be) Pacific Lutheran University. This 60-second promo gives some indication of the flavor of that day and the excitement of the season.
“It seems like those days were from several lifetimes ago,” Trent reflects 26 years later. “These recordings represent yet another historical pile that I cannot ever seem to catch up to no matter how much time I take to reflect. Hearing this back is akin to having an out-of-body experience. Very interesting times, no doubt.”
