Television: Hydroplane Thrills #1

Unlimited Hydroplane racing became an annual event in Trent Ling’s hometown of Pasco, Washington, beginning when Trent was but one year old.  Trent has long been convinced that his passionate love and appreciation of the sport came about in order to inspire and prepare him for the treacherous battles he would one day face and overcome in the Faith. Accordingly, this site will occasionally share portions of Trent’s ESPN broadcasts including his running montage of Unlimited thrills through the years.  Playing to win is Heaven’s call.  And sometimes it takes us over the edge!

Sometimes, wind and water conditions rattle us as they did the disciples of Christ.  Other times, we go all out and pay the price for life on the leading edge.  Still other times, our learning curve comes with great defeats and frying pans to the face. In any and all cases, may we be made wiser, and may we gladly become much more humble.

For more on these cases in point, enjoy the television clip below:

Television: Hydroplane Thrills #1 — 2 Comments

  1. Such an exhilarating sport! I’ll never forget the first time I saw the unlimited hydroplane race was in Pasco, I was in my late pregnancy and Circus Circus flipped, I ran closer to the river… didn’t know what I was thinking??! I’ve never seen anything like what you just saw on TV happened for real right in front of your eyes! Such is life in the kingdom too!

  2. Trent, hydroplane racing is the perfect allegory of life! For me, the hydroplane that was in front symbolizes the “kingdom of heaven that is forcefully advancing” and the pilot is the disciple that is “forcefully laying hold of it” (Matthew 11:12). Even if the water and the wind conditions are not the best, the Kingdom will keep advancing. Yet, the two hydroplanes that flew away symbolize the disciples that have their own agenda (driving their own hydroplane) other than advancing the kingdom. They will “tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind…” (Ephesians 4:14) I want to be Team God’s faithful pilot and make Him proud by crossing the finish line.
